Melbourne to Brisbane 5 – Eden’s Coastal Walks

Start of The Bundian Way

March 11-15, 2020
Eden has several opportunities for walking and we managed to fit in two of them, although the shortest, during our stay. The Bundian Way is the beginning of a walking trail from Eden to Kosciusko and meanders around the coastline from the edge of town to Quarantine Bay, the location of the major recreational boat ramp for Nullica Bay. On the day of our walk was the conclusion of the annual Fishing Competition as the image will show with a full car park at the end of the walk.

Aslings Beach is the main beach along the shore of Calle Calle Bay at the Northern side of town. A walking path and part boardwalk leads from the park overlooking the bay almost to the end of the beach and takes in the views along the way and back to the town and headland.

Melbourne to Brisbane 4 – Eden’s Killer Whale Museum

March 11-15, 2020
Eden has a very unique attraction in the Killer Whale Museum, a tribute to the Killer whales who actually assisted the Whalers and includes the full skeleton of “Old Tom” which was found dead on the beach one morning in 1930.

The museum holds a large collection of all the memorabilia of it’s life and times as a Whaling and Fishing centre and sits in a prime position overlooking Twofold Bay.

Melbourne to Brisbane 3 – Eden

March 12-16, 2020
Crossing into NSW we booked a 4 night stay at the Discovery Park Eden who were offering a special rate as part of the campaign to get visitors back to the South Coast after the devastating bushfires. This is a typically large coastal area park with over 300 sites and onsite vans/cabins plus all the facilities you might need. Not terribly busy now the long weekend is over and the Summer season finished so a good chance for us to stay put for four days and explore the town and surrounds.

The Park has it’s own access directly onto Boydtown Beach with views across to the town of Eden across Nullica Bay

The town of Eden sits at the centre of Twofold Bay, so named because it encompasses the dual bays of Calle Calle and Nullica; the headland at the end of town originally had a lighthouse and now is the location for the Marine Rescue Centre. From the Lookout here you get a view across Nullica Bay to the Chip Mill and Boyds Tower. We also saw a dismasted yacht being towed back into harbour.

Adjacent to the Lookout is the Fishermen’s Memorial, a wall initially built following the loss of the trawler Shiralee in 1978 with the loss of all hands. It now includes memorial plaques to all those lost at sea from the Port of Eden.
