Katherine Gorge is actually a string of 13 gorges, the first three of which can be reached by river cruises all year round, changing boats at each change of gorge. We chose the two-gorge tour which lasts 2 hours and has a 500m walk between the first and second gorges. Taking the 11 am tour gave us some period of sunlight on both sides of the gorges on the way up and back; our guides, Hamish and Russell, were excellent with Russell giving the indigenous perspective of the country.
