Along Litchfield Park Road as you drive in from the Stuart Highway and Darwin is an explanatory site about the NTs thousands of these which are everywhere you go up here. One side of the site focuses on the Magnetic termites whose mounds align exactly with North-South to maximise the heating effect of the sun; a short walkway leads to viewing platform overlooking the open area – left and below:

Alongside the parking area is a solitary mound of the Cathedral type, this one is believed to be over 50 years old and still an active nest
