Leaving Gonngarrie Homestead, and travelling back to the Highway we happened upon a passing mineral train heading North to reload no doubt.
From there it’s only a few kms to the site of two lonely graves alongside the highway with a view to Lake Goongarrie beyond. From here it’s only a further 40km drive to the town of Menzies, Site 6 on the Golden Quest Discovery Trail.
The town of Menzies, once home to 10,000 people within a 5 mile radius, the population is now 108 in the town itself. One hotel remains which is also the small general store, the Visitor Centre is also the Post Office and there are two seasonal cafes; nothing else remains other than the Shire operated Caravan park for which you pay at the Visitor Centre next door.
