A WA Museum facility this Albany Museum commemorates much of the history of WA’s oldest settlement including a replica of the brig Amity which brought the first settlers here in 1826, this amazing replica built here on site almost 50 years ago. Entry is free except for below decks on the Amity (see below).
The onsite buildings include the Residency, a relocated one-teacher schoolroom, the original Mt Barker Co-op building, and the “Eclipse Building”, the newly built reception and exhibits centre.
The Residency houses the majority of the historical displays, indigenous history and currently a special exhibit on the attempt in 1976 to blowup the woodchip terminal
The Eclipse building includes the reception, gift shop, resource room and upstairs current visiting exhibitions; at this time is the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition.
