Having arrived back at Cable Beach with a bad vibration in our Landcruiser since Wolfe Creek we took it to Minshull Motors to be checked. As busy at it is, it was a week before it could be looked at, and after a first diagnosis of a misfire it transpired that we had, in fact, broken the engine mounts and subsquently damaged the UJs and a couple of other items.

As we had to leave the Tarangau Caravan Park and not being able to extend our stay, we had to find an alternative. As it happens, Warren Minshull at the garage owns a Hipcamp property at Waterbank, North of Broome so we negotiated to stay there at a cash price of $50/night. The property is a 23km drive from Broome and the beachfront about 12km North of the Cable Beach Surf Club along the beach. He also rpovided us witha loan vehicle while ours was being fixed, first an old ute called Rusty (for obvious reasons!) and then this Toyota Corolla.

The property is 5 acres and part of an old farm, also the last along Lawrence Road before it enters a Conservation Reserve; a small toilet and shower block is provided (which we rarely used) and water to keep filling our tank via our bladder every few days. We had from about 4 to 20 fellow campers at any time and being new, word was slowly spreading about the camp existence.

The beach can be driven or walked to over a distance of only 700m and extends 6km to the North (and drivable) to the Southern side of Willie Creek, and 3km Southwards to a lagoon which is easily crossed at low tide; Cable Beach Central is a further 9km but in clear view all the way to Gantheaume Point.
