A location we didn’t visit on our way North and known as a “hidden gem” of the Kimberley.
The Caravan Park is the primary accommodation in the area, offering powered and unpowered sites, cabins, a small shop, and fuel (diesel and unleaded) it is accessed via a 23 km unsealed red dirt road off the Great Northern Highway
A short walk takes you to the Port Smith Lagoon, a large, turquoise tidal lagoon that offers boat launching at high tide and exploring among the mangroves. It is a sanctuary for dugongs, dolphins, and turtles.
The area is part of the Karajarri Traditional Lands. The Karajarri Traditional Lands Association (KTLA) manages the tourism zone and the Port Smith Bird Park which is yet to be fully developed.
