After 8 days here it’s time to move on to Conto Campground tomorrow for 2 days so here is our last look at Augusta. We did several walks around the town and surrounds while here as well as our visits to Cape Leeuwin and the Jewel Cave so here is a little summary.

Our last walk took us past the Pioneer Cemetery with it’s few remaining identified graves and a memorial highlighting the sadness of the quantity of child deaths in those early years. The first settlement here survived only around 20 years from 1830 to 1850 and it was more than a decade before a second settlement began in the 1860s.

A unique memorial at the site of the town War Memorial here is one dedicated to the Australian Army Nurses from all of Australia who died in service, notably in World War 2 who are all listed by name
