March 22-26, 2018
Leaving Carcoar Dam to escape the gale force wind which forced us to roll in our awning, we stopped off in Cowra to shop and then stayed the night at the Recreation Ground at Wombat. This is a $20/night community run campground with limited toilet and power facilities, plus one shower. We opted for the higher end of the grounds right next to the amenities and had only a couple of other vans for company overnight.
From Wombat we drove via Young where we fuelled up and used the Laundromat to catch up on 8 days of washing. Then on to Bethungra Dam, another 75km South West. This is a Council Dam with free camping and a single drop toilet (which was being pumped out when we arrived – no smell!)
Most of the camping area is sloping and everybody looks for the flatter spots but you still have to level up the van in most places; we had two goes before settling on a place not too far from everything but had to face away from the dam due to the strong winds coming up again.
The top of the hill behind the camping area has a large area of rocks and a view back over the camp and dam, as well as to the South.
A final view over the dam:
