After 4 weeks and no sign of the part for our fridge repair, we had to leave Bowen to get down to Brisbane for a family Christmas. Leaving on Sunday (19th) we had decided to just make a straight run over 3 roughly equal days, the first taking us to the Waverley Creek Rest Area (main picture) which is about halfway between Mackay and Rockhampton. We have stayed here before and it has a large road loop for parking overnight and toilets.
On the second day we continued South to the Gin Gin North Rest Area, a large grassy area behind the driver reviver station. Our final run took us from here to Lawnton and the Pine Rivers Showgrounds; Brisbane at last after around 1100km….and there are still Koalas in the trees around Lawnton..
