March 10-17, 2025
Expecting to bypass Horrocks and travel a little further up the coast, we had a forced change of plan when Keith’s Debit card was compromised and had to be cancelled and replaced; the simplest replacement was to be through the bank in Gerldton. Having spent 3 days in Northampton, it was a better choice to travel the extra 22km to spend the week near a beach and go to Horrocks.
A typical beach shack community Horrocks has 161 residents as at the 2021 Census, although this seems to be a rather high figure considering the number of holiday shacks here. Services consist of just the Caravan Park and a General Store; the Store opens limited hours outside the holiday seasons but still offers some takeaways Wednesday to Sunday, and fresh bread three days a week.

Walking here is rather limited to the beach and a foreshore path but Frances managed to get a 7km training “loop” out of the Foreshore plus main road footpaths, and a gravel road towards the Little Bay Campground for her running so 2 laps gave her a 14km run (and mostly flat!). We also walked up the hill to a lookout on the road coming into town (Main Image).
