We had timed our arrival in Kalgoorlie to allow Frances to get to the park run on Saturday the 23rd and the additional run on Christmas Day; as it happens they announced another extra run on New Year’s Day so we extended our stay in The Discovery Goldfields Caravan Park to 11 days to take in all 4 runs.
The third run on December 30 provided a new PB of 26:19 for the 5km course which includes a hill to the lookout (Pic 2 – cresting the rise on Christmas Day)
The run goes anti-clockwise from the Start around the bottom loop then clockwise around 3 sides of the bottom loop then clockwise around the top section, crosses the bottom loop and returns to the Finish,
The Caravan Park here was very quiet as you would expect for Kalgoorlie in mid Summer with temperatures in the high 30s, hitting 42 one day, sites are large and amenities very clean, pool very popular with the few children that are around.
We enjoyed a Christmas Day Lunch with Ian and Jacquie, a couple from the Gold Coast ; our oven broke down a couple of days before so as we both had the same 1kg Turkey breasts just put both in their BBQ and we each cooked our own veggies; all up we spent the whole afternoon from about 2 to 7pm, a very enjoyable day.
