A location we didn’t get to on our first visit, the Arboretum is on the north side outskirts of town, not far from the Parkrun venue. An area of 26 hectares it has a very open woodland section with multiple plantings of each species and a more parkland-type area with more individual plantings. Walking trails meander around and our walk took us around 3km of wandering.
.. to complete our trip out we crossed the road to Hammond Park, a City Council park with ornamental lake, aviaries and miniature buildings; normally there is a cafe but it was closed for a Christmas break.
