Top: Joffre Gorge, a short walk from the Campground
Karijini Eco Retreat is a development of the original Savannah Campground and is operated by Gumala Enterprises & Development Pty Ltd, the business arm of the Gumala Trust, which is one of Australia’s largest Traditionally Owned organisations, serving the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
A well-designed campground provides everyone with an individual bay and there are toilets and hot water showers, a restaurant and bar and onsite accommodation scattered around the resort area.
Joffre Gorge is a short walk from the campground but with a lot of steps to climb back out, we stuck to walking the top only and taking in the views of the gorge below from both sides. For the photo gallery click the map:

Just 10km by road is Knox Gorge offering a walk to the bottom and along the canyon; another rugged descent but well worth it when you get down there. Photo gallery click the map:
Another 10km drive from the Retreat takes us to Weano and Hancock Gorges; these flow through to the new closed off Wittenoom Gorge and the same bands of blue Asbestos can clearly be seen in the strata here, being harmless while undisturbed… Photo Gallery click the map:
