Lake Maraboon is the name given to the water contained by the Fairbairn Dam (pictured) just 10km out of Emerald. We visited the dam when staying in Emerald in 2017 and this time chose to stay for 3 days. The only camping around the Lake is the Caravan park with all the land around leased from Sunwater; as a new initiative this year they are offering bush camping with no access to facilities (except Dump Point and Cafe) in the Park. The area offered is cleared section just beyond the Park with a short walk to the water’s edge.
From the camp we walked (Frances)/cycled (Keith) down and around the lake edge back to the Park (about 4km) and alternately to the lookout over the dam wall (about 7km)
