The Western end of the wetlands area behind Busselton is Locke Nature Reserve, a 220 Hectare (550 acre) parcel preserved as a wildlife and bird sanctuary. Our visit was a little blustery with occasional light showers so the birdlife was a little sparse but still showed themselves occasionally.

An interesting 3km walk which could have been longer if the water level was a little lower but we came to the end of the causeway where at least gum boots would have been needed to go further.

An interesting find near the start of our walk was this timber weir across the Buayanup River which flows to the sea only a further 150m away.
