July 28 – 31

Finally getting away from Brisbane on a Friday we traveled only the 70 odd kms to the hinterland town of Maleny.  Having only visited briefly while staying at Kenilworth in 2014 we decided to try out eh Showground camping – great value at $15/night with a maximum stay of 3 nights allowed.

Plenty of space here and very popular with caravans being allowed to use the cricket oval in addition to the usual area outside the fence.  There are three amenities blocks here, two with showers; plus water and power available for those who need it.

The town is a popular place for weekend visitors with cafes and tourist shops along the main street; as well as the IGA there is a Woolworths opened a few years ago after some controversy over the creek which flows through this side of town.

From the Showground is a first class walking track to town which crosses the creek (Top Picture) and then follows it or a while.

From here we decided to head for the Wide Bay Highway by skirting around Gympie to the West….
