The Daly River area is one of the very popular spots with the fisherfolk among us for the barramundi to be pulled from the river. The settlement area has multiple caravan parks along its banks. Not being of the fishing fraternity we just wanted to take in the surrounding country and found this gem of a private campground run by Peter and his wife for the last 16 years. As bookings can only be made by phone they limit visitors to no more than 4 or 5 vans/trailers at any one time so everyone has plenty of space among the mango and bush apple trees.
Peter has constructed an amenities block with toilets and showers and has a donkey hot water system which you definitely don’t need at this time of year!”
The whole property is located along the Daly River itself and is otherwise surrounded by the Mt Nancar Conservation Reserve which is managed by NT Parks and Wildlife. Peter has roughly mapped out trail around the main Nancar lagoon, the end one in a chain of four. The views across the lagoon are well worth the walk and a short uphill climb provides a view across to the river and countryside to the West.
The photos will tell the story of the rest of the walks around the property, lookout for the Olive Python cooling off in the creek
