March 20-30
Leaving the riverside camp at Bingara we headed across to Narrabri and the Showgrounds camping area so we could plug in to the mains to keep our fridge going until a new one ordered on line is delivered there.
The Showgrounds here has lots of space and just a live-in caretaker and an honesty box to put your money in when he is out. As the fridge was not going to arrive until early the next week we booked in for a week as the seventh night is free and only $18/Night anyway.
Narrabri is probably the largest town we will be in until Wentworth/Mildura when we reach the Murray and has both major Supermarkets (Coles/Woolworths). Like most regional main towns the town centre is “streetscaped “and tidy.
The short story on the fridge is that the local freight agent refused to deliver it to us at the Showgrounds and sent it back to the Tamworth Depot! The manager from there then confirmed they could deliver it to Wee Waa where we were heading next and spoke to the local agent there to confirm the arrangement. So, after a week in Narrabri we still didn’t have a new fridge!
So to Wee Waa…
The oldest settlement in the district Wee Waa is now, like Narrabri, the centre of cotton country, a very clean and tidy town with a good Supa IGA store and most facilities (Pharmacy, Hardware etc.),
The Showgrounds are not as well known for their campground and we were the only ones there for the 3 nights we stayed ($15/night). The caretaker, Brian, is a local semi retired farmer and very amenable. We gave him our old fridge as a drinks fridge as it works reasonably on 240v if you don’t keep opening the door all day! He had it going the next morning before we left – nice and cold!So
Yes, the fridge did arrive and I managed to install it and get it working on 240v and, I thought, 12 volt, but that wasn’t quite right! Connection to the LPG was going to need a gasfitter as it is in a different place on the fridge to the old model. This was going to be easier to arrange in Coonamble, our next destination, so off we headed (with it not working on 12 volts for the trip but with door kept closed it wasn’t losing any significant temperature in a couple of hours (150km journey)).
