September 11-12, 2018
Narrendera we once passed through before for a couple of days in 2016, but then it was rather wet and dreary; this time the sun was shining and we opted for the free camping area by the Murrumbidgee River on the edge of town. Officially the (Oakbank) Brewery Flat Reserve there are toilets and water available here and lots of space around the Narrandera Cricket Ground. The local boat ramp is also located here.
Opposite the Reserve (across the Newell Highway, or underneath via a bridge from the Reserve) is the Narrandera Wetlands with a circular walking track and interpretive signs as you progress around. Not much birdlife today but an old pelican relaxing on a log at least.
On the path around is an example of the Australian Panel Bridge, based on the famous “Bailey Bridge” widely used by troops n WW2 and beyond as an easy to erect structure which basically came as a “Kit”
