January 18-24, 2019
Emerging from the top of the Brisbane River Valley we looked at a few options for our next overnight stay and ended up at Wolca Reserve, 6kms North of Mount Perry. A Council reserve this is $5/person/night and has toilets, cold showers and water available. Like many small reserves we have stayed at we were the only ones there, this time for two nights.
Next Stop – Gin Gin Showgrounds:
We stayed here on our first trip back in 2014 and not much has changed; a new caretaker (since Oct last) but all else is the same. Two nights here with power gave us the opportunity to test the washing machine in the van which performed perfectly, it even spins quite dry, a vast improvement on our old “wash only” beast!
Part Three – Wongi State Forest:
We stayed here in 2014 and decided it would be both a pleasant place for three days and a chance to give the van another run over Forestry roads. On the second point we were not disappointed as the road in was one of the worst corrugations we have seen anywhere! However, nothing shook loose and hardly anything inside moved around.
The campground had not changed and the waterholes were as placid as before. The Magpie Lark at the campground still sits on the towing mirrors (see inset 2014 picture); and a lone Goanna wandered by. There was other bird life around and a collection of different trees have been planted in the camping area.
The final leg – Cruice Park, Woodford
In order to have a very short and easy run in to Sunland on Friday morning we travelled across to the outskirts of Woodford and the Cruice Park Rest Area (where we also stopped in 2014). From here is only 27kms to the factory to drop off the van for it’s first service.
