Everyone you meet on the road who has been there talks about the Nindigully Pub – so being as close as St George we had to go!
The pub has a large council controlled campground and used to supply the only toilet facilities for campers. Now there is a small new toilet block and a dump point but the Pub still leave theirs (in the beer garden) open all hours for additional toilets and hot showers.
Always popular, there was around 5-10 campers there each night of our 2 night stay. The section of the Moonie River alongside the campground is mostly a lagoon, held in by a weir until there is higher flow in the river, the main channel is a short distance further West.
The old bridge used to be the main road from St George now sitting as a relic of the past; replaced most of the time by a crossing by gravel road past the weir when dry.
The pub itself is famous for it’s burgers and even the “standard” size ones which we had are big! The road train burger is a whole 1kg pattie and they can do a party size which is 5kg to order with specially baked buns from the St George Bakery! (Usually served sliced like a pie!)
A walkway along the lagoon has a few interpretive signs and a good setup of picnic tables and BBQs.
