While staying in Hughenden we also drove up to Porcupine Gorge (about 75km North) which has spectacular rock formations. This area was on the edge of Australia’s last great inland sea so the fossils around here are mostly land-based whereas at Richmond they are aquatic as it was the sea floor.
The Gorge Lookout (above) is around 65km North of Hughenden but the views make the drive more than worthwhile; a few kilometres further up the road takes you to the Pyramid Lookout and the Campground (National Park so no dogs!)
