At the summit of the highway, before descending the 99 bends into Queenstown, are these two lookouts. The Iron Blow Lookout is a short drive off the highway along an old mining access road. This provides a sweeping view including through to lake Burbury in the distance. The extended platform (top) allows you to look down into the now water filled crater of the old workings.

On the opposite side of the highway is a small parking area and the walking track to the Horsetail Falls Lookout. This is mostly a constructed platform anchored into the side of the mountain and presents views down the Queenstown hill and across to the airport on the Strahan side of town. The images start with the parking area and a monument marking the opening of “The West Coast Road” in 1932; prior to this access to this remote part of Western Tasmania was not possible from the direction of Hobart.
