December 20-30, 2019

Having earlier decided to spend Christmas at Strahan we had booked a campsite at a private property on the outskirts of town. This proved to be a great spot and our hosts, David and Julie, are terrific people and ended up inviting us to share Christmas lunch with them, some family, and another “ring in”, Geoff, a Canadian/Australian sailor who has his catamaran moored at Risby Cove here (see just off centre in main photo above).

The property here is 30 acres and they limit stays to 6 vans; when we arrived there was one other who left Christmas Eve, then on boxing day we were joined by a group of four who couldn’t get into the caravan parks or campgrounds anywhere around. Another van joined us on the 27th and are staying after we leave on Monday, Dec, 30th.

On the property here they have two horses, and several dogs and there is the usual birdlife of Blackbirds, superb wrens, Plovers and the very fluffy-looking European Goldfinch.

Strahan itself hasn’t changed much in the almost 20 years since we lived in Tassie, our short visit here in March was very wet and so we didn’t get to see much. This time we ventured up to the water tank lookout, a walk around the town, the short walk to Hogarth Falls.
These images show all of that in the same order:
