The small town of Tara lies on the road from Dalby to Surat in the Western Downs, at the Northern end of the Moonie Gas Fields. The Western Downs Council provides a RV stop at the local Lagoon and Parklands with a modern toilet and shower block. For those requiring it there is mains power available for up to 4 vans on a bitumen area and for those not needing the mains a large area of grassland with scattered trees.
The Parklands area sits between the Lagoon, which in recent year has been enlarged, and the local Showgrounds, and extends to the edge of the Lagoon with picnic tables and a playground.
The town of Tara has a small number of the essential retailers including a modern IGA Supermarket and a small local hospital now wth a new helipad as seen here.
A Walking path has been constructed around about 70% of the lagoon from which you can return the same way or via the streets.
During our stay, on the Saturday the Showgrounds next door were the lunch stop for the annual Queensland Varety Club Bash with over 100 vehicles passing through. Here are some arriving, departing and parked for lunch
