March 24-30 , 2019
A change of plans means a brief visit to the West Coast which we couldn’t change as we have mail arriving at Strahan which can’t be diverted. Frances is flying to the UK on April 8 as her brother in law has had a severe heart attack and Frances is going to give some support to sister Margaret. This means diverting back to Launceston after the brief West Coast journey.
Leaving Smithton we headed back towards Burnie and then Southwards again to a first stop at Ridgley and their RV stop at the Bowls Club.
From Ridgley a lengthy (for Tasmania!) run to Zeehan and the Bush Camp and Caravan Park. This is a great little park in a bushland setting at $33/night and an opportunity to once again catch up on Laundry and a little shopping at the local IGA.
The point of interest closest to town that we visited (as we are going to return to the West Coast later in the year) was The Spray Tunnel, named after the mine where it emerges from the hill. Only 100m long it is shaped to fit the tank and chimney of the locomotive used to haul the Silver ore at the time.
From Zeehan just a 45km run to Strahan and a brief two day stay at the Golf Club RV Stop, a $10/night fee with water and rubbish bins available. Collected mail and other bits and leaving tomorrow (Saturday) to return North Eastwards. It was too wet and more rain forecast to consider the Railway trip so we will do that when we return.
