From our second visit to Hamilton we travelled back to the Kiln (see earlier post) near New Norfolk as we had mail to collect and needed to visit a doctor for regular checks etc. This resulted in finding a doctor with availability in Hobart itself as New Norfolk now only has one medical practice who were booked up for over a month. From the kiln we then travelled out to Lake Pedder via the Gordon River Road (left and below) and the campground at Ted’s Beach. This is maintained by Hydro Tasmania and provides boat launching of the beach as well as flush toilets and an enclosed picnic shelter.

We arrived here in showery conditions but the next day brought out the sunshine and we were able to get the better views across the lake. A short boardwalk along the Northern side of the beach leads to several small jetties and a view back to the campground. There was also a bushfire burning over around 2500 hectares in an area between Lake Pedder and Lake Gordon to the north of here and there were three helicopters around the area with up to two doing fire bucket duties from time to time. We also had a couple of Pademelons grazing under our awning in the early evening, one with a joey in the pouch, you can see its head poking out to graze in the final photo; they’re obviously not entirely nocturnal around here.

The next morning brought us early fog and these views of campers on the beach show the fog dispersing and a morning fisherman heading out into the mist.
