The Gloucester Tree is one of Pemberton’s best-known attractions; used for many years as a Fire tower it has only climbing rungs spiked into the trunk with no other safety rails to a height of 61 metres (200 feet). For many years visitors wishing to could climb but it is currently closed for an assessment of how to make it safer and more accessible, they may never reopen to the public. The nearby Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree is taller (75m) and similar and was created for the Bicentennial in 1988; those two are the World’s tallest natural tree fire lookouts. A third tree, the Diamond tree was closed in 2019.
