Above: Mount Farrell dominates the landscape behind Tullah
March 30-31, 2019
Leaving Strahan after three fairly damp days we moved back Northwards and stopped for two nights at the Lakeside Lodge at Tullah on Lake Rosebery. The Lodge has just two ensuite caravan sites and space for another two vans to hook up to power and water but we opted for just plain camping which is free. It is only a gravel parking area but close to the Lake and a short stroll to the lakeside walking path.
The walking path follows the lake from the Jetty to the pump Station and then you can walk back to the Lodge through the village. This is the original Hydro village and there is another small part of Tullah on the Murchison Highway as you drive through. Tullah has only a small store (in the old part) with basic essentials and a Tavern and Cafe on the highway. The tourist attraction or the town is the “Wee Georgie Wood Railway”, a very narrow gauge small loop next to the highway.
The area in general attracts the fishers amongst us with access to both Lake Rosebery and the nearby Mackintosh Dam. The dam is just a few kms from town and offers a basic camping area which is just a flat gravel area close to the two boat ramps. You have to drive across the dam wall to reach the campground and views here are spectacular on a good day; it was cloudy on our visit but you do get the idea!
