A further 63km from Lake Ballard we arrive at Ularring Soak and Rock; the Ularring Soak is a permanent well which was visited by Ernest Giles and his exploration party on October 16, 1875 when they were “supposedly” attacked by local “warriors”; the real story is questionable and no injuries were recorded.

We spent a couple of hours wandering up and around the rock which is similar to many others in the W.A. wheatbelt and goldfields although this one was never walled to provide run off water for anything else so it remains untouched. The exception being a cairn at the top as a tribute to Giles although when and by whom is not known.
