Depot Hill is about 15km from Mingenew with a small parking area and a 3km, out and back, walking trail. From WA State Heritage:
“Named by the Gregory Brothers in 1846 where they buried supplies. It was used by explorers, travellers and coal prospectors and became an important stock grazing common and holding area with year-round water on the stock route north. During World War 2 the area of Depot Hill became an important Army Firing Range.”
The latter use can be seen as the end of the trail is at the trench where soldiers in the trench would raise and lower the targets.

Lots of the usual species here with an occasional orchid and we are starting to see the everlasting daisies finally turning to seed, apparently the warmer weather is the “killer’ and it’s now hitting 30 degrees most days this week. We walked the trail to the trench, around the back of it and then took a short stroll from the parking area along the side of the hill.
