Due to the nature of the townsite relocating and other factors Wyndham has four Cemeteries and during our walks we visited the two oldest. Subsequent to these the current, Main Cemetery opened to the South of the current town; the 4th is a dedicated Afghan Cemetery from the 1890s for the cameleers who kept the area supplied.

The Pioneer Cemetery, also known originally as The Bend Cemetery, was the first, operating from 1886 to 1929, and was abandoned when it ran out of space and was suffering from some tidal erosion. We walked to this from the Caravan Park, a pleasant 5km return.

The Gully Cemetery behind the Port area opened in 1922 and continued in use until 1968 and has some interesting “occupants”

We also took a short drive to Three Mile Valley which is off the road to the 5 Rivers Lookout and provided a swimming hole for early residents when the creek is flowing, a picnic area still exists but very “unloved”
