The road from Cave Hill brings you back to the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway at Widgiemooltha, around 90km North of Norseman. We decided to stay overnight in the RV stop and top up with supplies, water and fuel before heading for the Hyden-Norseman Road. Norseman gave us a sunset across the town for our final evening (for now) in the area.
The Hyden-Norseman Road is also The Granite and Woodlands Discovery Trail, a route with 16 designated places of interest. We had already picked out our preferred stopping places which are all part of the list, the first being Disappointment Rock, which is Site 12, being numbered from Hyden going eastwards.
Disappointment Rock has a very small turning loop with room for only a couple of vans but being Summer we were the only ones and other was very little traffic along the road in general. There is a discovery trail around and over the rock with informational boards at 17 locations. With no map other than on the first board you have to locate each one along the way; mostly they’re easily in sight of each other but we failed to find #9 despite a wide search and #14 also alluded us supposedly being just off the main loop.
