Just a short drive of 20km took us to Lake Johnston camping area. We were going to stop and look but the views are stunning so decided to stay, McDermid Rock can wait until tomorrow – and it’s only another 7km!
3km before the camping area you have a lookout and the information board for site 11 on the trail.
We were treated to a Gould’s Monitor passing our window and followed it as it ambled off in search of food to the lake bank
The camping area offers toilet and tables and we set up over looking the Lake from our table inside ; a 4.3km walk took us along the shoreline past a salt mining site and around a peninsula giving stunning views Southwards along the lake; we returned via the salt pan of the Lake itself .
