Arrived here today and came to the Showgrounds which was recommended by a couple we met at Julia Creek.  Only one caravan park in town allows our dog and is around $36/night whereas here has a Seniors rate of only $25/night and we have acres of space!  When we checked in and paid and asked “where is the camping area?” we were told “anywhere you like”!  Dozens of power boxes and taps and several toilet blocks there is lots of choice.

While at Ti Tree yesterday we bought a local newspaper (The Advocate) and Frances spotted an interesting ad for free site in exchange for some “caretaker and light duties in  museum grounds” It turns out that this is at the National Transport Hall of Fame (Museum) and they want someone to look after the gardens and feed the aviary birds etc., they had a caravanner there doing this for the last 12 months.  There are a couple of other volunteers in vans on site so we decided to take it on.

We were planning on doing all the “tourist” things around Alice, seeing Renee and then heading South and finding somewhere cheap or free for at least a couple of months over Christmas and School holidays.  Staying here for 3-4 months seems like a really great option so we are taking the van over on Saturday. We have undertaken a minimum 3 months but will likely stay about 4 months (until end of Feb) to give us enough time to get back to Brisbane for Zoe’s (then Laura’s) “delivery” of our next grandchildren 🙂

So her is the van in position for our stay, under an open sided shed at the rear of the Museum

More news later 🙂
