Above is the top of the inclined Plane which leads to the old wharf area at Plunkett Point.
Here at the top of the inclined Plane is the Main Shaft, the fourth to be created and the last to be used, now filled partially for safety reasons. Miners were lowered down here sitting face to face on a board lowered by a simple winch system.


The hole is fenced around and nearby are the residue of small buildings and coal dust; a walking path leads to the Signal Station. Along the way you can see across to the cliffs near Cremorne


The other location away from the Settlement is the Air Shaft, still quite a deep hole but well protected by fencing and showing the stonework used to complete the ground rim.
