After staying at Deniliquin for 9 days we took a short drive North to the small settlement of Conargo. Now having only the local store (above) the town lost it’s hotel to a fire in 2014 and plans to rebuild have not yet come to fruition; unfortunately they lost a lot of photographic memorabilia in the fire with only the Facade remaining. To maintain a link to the town’s History there are several information boards throughout including the two at the entrance to Bill’s Park where you can camp for three days and have access to toilet and water.
The Park has space for campers at the front, which shares the space with the Fire Station, or around the back where there are a couple of reasonably flat spots and a little more screened from the road. A circular driveway around a central tree filled hollow makes for very pleasant surroundings.
A short stroll from the back fence is a gravel road leading to the local swimming hole in Billabong Creek:
Maintaining the links to the local history is a new visitor display centre at the road junction including public tolets and picnic area.
..and onward to Jerilderie..
