Cudgegong Waters Park is the only Public Boat Ramp and Park on the shore of Lake Windamere (Above)

March 13-16, 2018

Windamere Dam and lake are located only a short drive South of Mudgee and the Park is only 1km off the Castlereagh Highway on the Mudgee-Rylstone Road.  To enter you have to pay a $6 entry fee at the boom gate but if you leave and return during your camping stay any extra payments are refunded at the office.  The fee is mainly because this is the only complete water access to Lake Windamere and is a day use area as well as a campground.

The campground consists of a couple of areas of cabins, two small areas of powered sites and a huge open and partly treed grass area going right down to the water’s edge. In the right hand picture below our Landcruiser and a bit of the van can be seen in the centre between the trees, right at the waters edge.

This was the first opportunity to put our new Kayak in the water and so Keith had to do the “maiden voyage” solo.  We can only show Frances seated and ready to go as we have had nobody to take a picture of us both on the water yet.

The most we discovered was that we need to learn how to steer better but there were some currents running (maybe that’s our excuse anyway) but we both enjoyed our first experiences on the water.
