Fortescue Bay has two camping areas close together, one, Banksia, catering for tents only for the large number of walkers who come here. The other, Mill Creek, has several spaces large enough for caravans but not all as easy to get in to and we changed from our allocated site to the very last one at the top of the track.
There are basic toilets here and at Banksia hot showers that you can purhase tokens for from the office.
The grounds are very well kept by Parks and Wildlife and now it is visitor “season” Rangers are on site every day.
At many campgrounds a “local inhabitant” welcomes you, often a Magpie, but here it was a Currawong who was hanging around every time it looked like a feeding possibility. Also around the camp was a family of four Wallabies including the one shown with a joey which was standing under our awning and looking at me in the caravan doorway.
The campgrounds are both adjacent to the bay and at the Mill Creek end is the Boat Ramp, a recent update from the original apparently.
The beach gives a view out to sea from the central part and is very sheltered, in fact it forms part of the walking tracks which go Northwards (later post on Canoe Bay)
