September 28- October 3, 2018
After spending three days at the weir we moved into town to check out the two possible free camps; the first was the one we stayed at, Frog Hollow. At the Southern end of the lake, it has water frontage but no amenities. The Dump Point though, with water available, is only two blocks away so we were able to replenish our water tanks a couple of times while we were here. This included doing some washing, as Lake Cargelligo is another town without a commercial Laundromat.
Being the start of the school holidays for NSW, and also the long weekend, we thought it might get quite busy, but it was only over the long weekend we had a longer line of vans next to us for the three days, after that it was fairly quiet again.
One aspect of the long weekend was a couple of water skiers out on the lake:
Lots of birdlife here too, the inevitable Pelican (sometimes catching his lunch!)
..and a solitary White Heron and a Grey Heron.
One of the strangest things was to see a birds head and neck suddenly appear out of the water and then moments later preceded by a fish in it’s beak Turns out these are Australasian Darters who swim with the body submerged.
Apart from the water birds there was a Magpie nest close by and after Frances being swooped Keith was attacked just standing next to the awning – never saw it coming!
After that, a Miner who was obviously nesting as well, tried to attack our awning for some thread for it’s nest; not succeeding there it started on the chair next (video)
