The Lake Cargelligo Weir is about 23km from town, including about 15km of gravel road and when you arrive you turn left over a grid into the weir area; ahead is part of a stock reserve and no camping is allowed but in the weir area camping is free and unrestricted but the only facility is a single drop toilet; apart from the peace and quiet of course!
On the way in you pass over the Inlet Regulator for the lake itself as the lake is not always kept at an acceptable level by the natural flows of the Lachlan River; a series of channels and small lakes, together with an outlet creek make up the system.
We found a good camping spot just below the weir and close to the river with lots of sun for the solar panels. No TV here so the Sat Dish was a must and only just usable Telstra signal, mostly with the modem on the car antenna.
View here towards our van from the solitary toilet:
A variety of bird life here, but none in great quantity as the whole surroundings are very dry and barren of food.
