Tuesday Sept 23

Our stay in Townsville ended after 10 days having got the Jackaroo back Friday night (19th) and visited Castle Hill to take in the views and walked around Kissing Point Historic Fort area over the weekend.  Tuesday morning before we left we had a Fuel Manager Filter fitted to the Jackaroo; having had one dose of bad fuel (before getting back to Ipswich last trip), which may have accelerated the injector problem, it was time for some added protection.  The Fuel Manager separates any water from the fuel into a drainage bowl as well as providing a higher level of general filtration.  The next stage was to set off Westwards and check out the performance 🙂

Headed out to a Rest Area at Macrossan Park where the Flinders Highway crosses the Burdekin River, about a 120km drive.  Having limped into Townsville barely able to get up to 90kmh and still in 3rd; and using about 20-22 litres/100km (ouch!) we are now cruising along effortlessly at 90+ in 4th and up to 100+ with no effort; we’ll measure fuel consumption a little later.

Macrossan Park is a very large Free RV area witha small Toilet Block (although not very well maintained by the Council) and off the highway next to the Burdekin River and Railway Bridge.  Very little water in the river here and none at all visible from the camp area.  We made good use of one of the picnic tables by parking the van right next to it as there were not many vans here today.
