Made a visit yesterday to the site of the original “Wide Bay Village”, close to the current Bruce Hwy bridge and at the Western end of the Maryborough city area.
This is one of the very few settlements where the site is still undeveloped and preserved for all to see.
Unfortunately most of the information markers have gone but you get an idea of what it would have been like on the banks of what was then the Wide Bay River, early settlers living in tents and bark huts.
We also had a look at Ululah Lagoon nearby, originally drained and formed as the town water supply it is now a bird sanctuary, picnic and park area and adjoins the Maryborough Golf Club.
