Pooncarrie is the only small town between Menindee and the Murray River with a population of 550 people at the last count. A multi-purpose local park alongside the Darling River includes a campground operated by the Council and community with a fee of $10 for unpowered and $20 including power and water. There are toilets, bins and a Dump Point.

The track which leads into the Campground continues just over a kilometre along the river and you can walk the around the river and edge of the golf Course and circle back to the camp, a total of about 3km; these images follow it around.

Along the way you can see the two bird hides and here Frances stands alongside a tree showing last year’s flood level from which the whole Western districts are still recovering

Before leaving we walked to the local “Old Wharf Cafe” on Sunday for a light lunch of home made sausage rolls and coffee
