The campground here has a designated walking trail that skirts one side of the camp and uses fire trails to create a loop walk of around 5km, our effort took 5.3km van to van.
We have found previously that the ants here in the South West of WA build nests which are a mound of mostly small twigs and stalks of grass. These are apparently the Iridomyrmex species of meat ant which build these nests in the cooler part of the year and in Summer retreat to underground nests . An interesting find along the way was a damaged nest with the workers frantically rebuilding with great co-operative effort!
