The other major centre in this district (together with Forster-Tuncurry) is Taree.  Both are about 40-45km away by road but very different communities.

Taree sits on the Manning River and is a typical inland rural centre rather than the costal communities of Forster-Tuncurry.  A town centre very neat and tidy with all the usual retailers and commercial businesses you would expect. Two shopping centres opposite each other with Coles and Woolworths/Big W and an Aldi store only 2 blocks away. The main street houses all the smaller retailers not in the centres and has the typical streetscaping of country towns today with planters and trees.

]The river frontage provides a walking path for over a kilometre with views up and downstream and across to the original bridge carrying the “old” Pacific Highway and still the main access into town from the South.  The new Pacific Motorway now bypasses the town to the East via a new bridge.
