Above – A dreary day at Copi Hollow

April 28-May 2, 2016

At Wilcannia we stayed at the Victory Caravan Park, owned by Council and right on the river bank across the bridge from town. Wilcannia has an undeserved reputation and has nowhere near the social issues it has had in the past. It does have some beautifully restored buildings and others sadly in need of repair.

From Wilcannia we headed off again, this time using the road on the Western side of the Darling, intending to stay a couple of days at Nelia Gari Station,  We duly found the driveway and rov ein, with nobody at the homestead we followed the instructions on the fence and found the camping area only to discover that our fridge would not start on LPG (again!)  This was a different problem with the igniter not working and after persisting for some time we decided to move on to Menindee.

Turned out to be just as well because it started to rain that night and for a considerable time.  If we had stayed at Nelia Gari we would not have been able to leave!

As it was we had to abandon the final leg of our trip through Pooncarrie as the road was going to be closed for at least 5-7 days.

We plan on returning to Wilcannia next year and taking up the journey again from there.

At Broken Hill we stopped off for Diesel and to do  little shopping at Coles and then moved down halfway to Wentworth at the Popiltah Lake rest area. A little cleaning of the switch and contacts had got the fridge going again on LPG but the switch appears to be intermittent; something to fix later!

So after 2 days at the Copi Hollow Caravan Park we headed off via Broken Hill, the only sealed road out of there.

A little cleaning of the switch and contacts had got the fridge going again on LPG but the switch appears to be intermittent; something to fix later!

From here we went through Wentworth and past Mildura to the Trentham Cliffs Tourist Park on the outskirts (This Park is now closed) for a couple of nights before heading for Gunning via the Murrumbidgee River and a multiplicity of free camps along the way.
