As we move into our third month in Covid lockdown here at Discovery Eden we are finally coming to the end of the Autumn weather and after a very pleasant 24 degrees on Wednesday we have dropped to maximums of about 15 for the next few days with accompanying winds and showers – a little grim you might say!
We have utilised Boydtown Beach here for walks (Frances more than Keith for her daily exercise!) and have seen the bay is in frequent use by local fishers in their small boats, local Prawn trawlers, and larger vessels at anchor offshore.

The beach here is seen from the Northern end adjacent to the Nullica River mouth at low tide:

The Boydtown “precinct” consists now of the Seahorse Inn, a fully renovated Boutique Hotel, and the adjacent Boydtown Beach Holiday Park, currently undergoing extensive upgrades to amenities, cabins, and caravan and camping sites. The only other remaining structure from the original settlement is the remains of the never completed church on the hill overlooking the complex, seen here from the beach but also visible from the Discovery Park where we are.

Boyd’s other remaining legacy is Boyd Tower on Red Point, seen here from the Eden Lookout.

A closer up view of the area and landmarks.

Some of the boating and shipping activity around the bays in the last couple of weeks. Locals in their “tinnies”, trawling for prawns, a local sailing ketch returning to port, Bulk Carriers carrying logs loaded at the Pulp Mill, and HMAS Canberra, the RAN Flagship.
