After a couple of days at May’s Bend we moved into town to the Mitchell Caravan Park, the only one of two which accepts pets. Nice clean and well kept park with the owners, Dan and Steph making everyone welcome with their daily happy hour offerings for small cost or nothing.
Bourke has a reasonable IGA supermarket but is definitely in decline compared to when Keith used to travel through here almost 40 years ago. The old bridge still stands and you can walk over it, I can’t believe I used to drive a truck over this as late as 1980!
There are lots of things to see in Bourke and we took in the reconstructed wharf, the maritime park on the opposite bank, and took the drive out to Mount Oxley – what great views! This is private property so you pay $10/head at the visitor centre and get a code for the lock (2016 – not very imaginative!)
